The Holly Blue Butterfly
Mosaic on Marine ply wood approx 70cm x 60cm
This piece is suitable for inside or outside, it is waterproofed with grout and has yacht varnish to protect. The Holly Blue is a beautiful small butterfly, first seen in the spring (March-April)and then the second generation between July-August. Native to England, the eggs are laid and caterpillars hatch on holly and ivy plants. I have tried to capture the essence of the Holy Blue, this one is a female distinguished by the black edges. They are blue with silvery shades, I have used stripes of colour to get the overall effect, with blue willow pattern pottery around the edges. She is for sale and took 45 hours to make.
