Westfield Infant and Nursery School, Watton, Norfolk. July 2012
'Welcome' Mosaic Panel 1.5m diameter for the school entrance wall.
This circular mosaic was inspired by pictures that the children had drawn. It depicts a boy and girl in a garden with trees, flowers and insects with the school logo behind and also includes the commemorative events of 2012 including Olympic rings and the diamond jubilee logo. I set up the mosaic workshops as an 'artist in residence' in the school hall for 6 days. All of the children and staff of the Infant and Nursery school visited in small numbers to each add their piece to the mosaic, many of the children brought in objects such as coins, buttons and broken crockery to be added. The mosaic was then grouted by the children and left in the school hall for a week before intalling to be polished!
It was sealed with yacht varnish before installation.
